The auditions will begin with small groups followed by individual auditions. You will receive your audition time slots.
Admission to the PCA Theatre program is by application and audition and is open to rising freshmen and sophomores in Richland School District Two who have at least a “C” average. The audition process is based on the state’s guidelines and is adjudicated by a panel of Theatre professionals.
REQUIREMENTS: Students have the choice of three types of auditions depending on the track of study they are considering: THEATRE, MUSICAL THEATRE, or TECHNICAL THEATRE. All tracks require an acting improvisation and a brief interview.
AUDITION PART A
Students may audition by performing one memorized monologue that is age-appropriate and between 45-60 seconds. Students will share or upload a video presenting this monologue. Students are asked to slate first. Slating requires students to state their name, grade, current school, and the name of the piece.
-OR-
Students may audition by performing one Broadway song. It will also need to be emailed. Students only need to present 16 bars of the song. Students are asked to slate first. Slating requires students to state their name, grade, current school, and the name of the piece.
-OR-
Students may wish to be considered for our Technical Theatre Track. Students must showcase their portfolio of Technical Theatre work. This should also be a video that highlights their Technical Theatre skills. All work must be original and created by the candidate. Technical Theatre students in the areas of costume design, light design, set design, and makeup design may choose to present their work as they narrate with a voiceover talking about their designs and their process for creating the work. Students are asked to slate first. Slating requires students to state their name, grade, and current school.
Monologue and singing auditions should be no longer than one minute in length. Technical Theatre Auditions may be up to 90 seconds in length. For your monologues please use contemporary material appropriate for your age and experience. Please do not use accents, dialects, or stylized characteristics.
Do not audition with classical material or rhymed poetry.
For the singing audition, students must provide their own accompaniment, and the accompaniment must be instrumental (without background vocals). Singing a cappella (without accompaniment) is strongly discouraged.
Technical Theatre candidates are encouraged to use apps like LOOM that allow you to record yourself narrating while presenting a powerpoint or slides. Technical Theatre students are encouraged to rehearse their presentation. Students may show a body of original work from more than one technical theatre field (for example costume and makeup design). Students are reminded to share information about the show or production the design was created for and how they developed their design.
All candidates are asked to perform an improvisation. The improvisation is required whether students share a monologue, or song or present their Technical Theatre portfolio.
AUDITION PART C
Students will have a brief interview with a panel of three to four judges.
